The Social Security System of the Republic of Palau traces its roots to the enactment by the Congress of Micronesia of the Social Security Act of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands which came into effect on July 1, 1968. With the dissolution of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands and the separation of Palau from the rest of the former Trust Territory entities, the Social Security Act of the Republic of Palau was enacted by the Third Olbiil Era Kelulau (RPPL 3-64).
